Floor Hockey

Facilities
  • The League rents facilities from the city of as well as private facilities to provide our leagues. Please respect the facilities so we can continue using them. If we lose our permit for any reason the season is over.
  • No outdoor shoes in any gym facility.
  • No marking/black-soled running shoes, or shoes that may scuff the floors.
  • No tape of any kind on sticks.
  • Leave the gym the way you found it.  Please throw away your garbage.
If you do not adhere to the above rules, then you will be asked to leave the gym.

Equipment
  • The League will provide nets and floor hockey balls.
  • Players will be responsible to bring a dark and light-coloured shirt.
  • Sticks must be plastic shafts and plastic blades. No composite, aluminum, or wooden sticks.
  • No tape of any kind on sticks.
  • Goalies need to provide their own equipment. Ice hockey pads and leather pads are not permitted.
Rosters
  • 4 players plus 1 goalie on the floor at one time.
  • At least two players on the floor must be female. Female goalies do not count towards the 2 on the floor.
  • There is no minimum requirement for males.
  • The League recommends teams of 8-10 players to avoid defaults.  Teams are also encouraged to have subs if needed
  • Teams can add to their roster at any point. Player info for every additional member must be sent to The League prior to them being allowed to play.

Spectators Defaults
  • If a floor hockey team is not ready 10 minutes after the posted game time they will lose by default 10-0. We recommend the game be played regardless if possible.
  • A minimum of 3 players need to be present at the start of the game to avoid a default. A least 2 players must be female.
  • If the minimum requirement is not met, the team that is short players will lose the game by default 10-0.
  • If a team loses by default, they will lose their default deposit.  If a team loses by default twice in one season, they will removed from the schedule without refund.
  • If both team captains agree, the minimum requirement can be waived and the game can be played and count towards the standings.
Officiating
  • All leagues are self officiated. This means players are responsible for making their own calls.
  • This is an adult rec league and we rely on our players being honest. When you are guilty of an infraction don’t assume no one saw you. Captains should speak up and call their own players fouls if they see them.
  • If a team continues to not call themselves, the League Coordinator will warn them and report this to The League. If the same player or team continues to not call their infractions then they will be asked to sit out.
  • Not calling your own infractions will also negatively affect your team’s sportsmanship rating and standings.
  • League Coordinator will be present to monitor the game, but they are not responsible to call penalties, rather teams and players are responsible to call their own penalties.
  • Any infraction where the intent is to hurt another player will result in ejection from The League.
Objectionable Behaviour

Reckless, aggressive, threatening or unsportsmanlike behaviour will result in being ejected from the game. If this behaviour is repeated, the player may face ejection from The League. If this is a team wide issue, the badminton team may be ejected from The League.
If a team or individual is found guilty of objectionable behaviour; the League Coordinator has the right to:
  • Warn a player
  • Ask a player to sit out
  • Ask a player to leave the gym
  • Recommend to The League that a player be suspended
Judgment calls made by the League Coordinators are final and protests will not be considered. Players or teams that argue with the League Coordinator will be subject to suspension or ejection from The League.
This means:
  • No arguing
  • No swearing towards the League Coordinator or other team
  • No complaining
The League Coordinators are not trained referees and are there to keep the game running and ensure games start and end on time. Please respect them. They have the right to make any player sit out or leave the gym. If asked to do either, you must do so immediately.

Game Play
  • The League Coordinator and captains will go over the specific boundary lines prior to game play
  • Games consist of a 5-minute warm up, followed by three 15-minute periods, with a 2-minute intermission between each period.
  • Teams should arrive at the gym 5-minutes before the scheduled game time.
  • Games must start and end on time. If your game does not start on time it does not get to end late.
  • Ties in the regular season will remain a tie.
  • Teams switch ends after each period.
  • Game play will start with a faceoff at center and will resume the same way after every goal.
  • Hurry up face offs are in effect all game. Once the League Coordinator is at centre, teams have 5 seconds to line up before the ball is dropped.
  • When a goalie makes a save or covers the puck, their team gets control of the puck from the side of their net. The other team must back off 10 feet or be behind a specific line and give them 7 seconds to resume play.
  • Teams are free to make line changes on the fly as long as the player on the floor is within a foot of the team’s bench. Violation of this rule will result in a penalty.
  • There are no offsides except on face-offs.
General Rules
  • The entire gym is in play except the stage and/or bleachers. If the ball leaves the playing surface a face-off will start the play at the nearest point to where it went out of bounds.
  • When the goalie has covered the ball he/she can either play the ball with their stick, drop the ball behind the net, or drop the ball to the side of the net.
  • Goalies cannot shoot the ball. They may only pass the ball or drop the ball to a teammate.
  • The opposing team must give the player 5 seconds to put the ball in play.
  • Goalies must stay in their designated crease area. Coming out of the crease to play the ball will result in an automatic penalty and the team will play shorthanded. The League Coordinator will point out the designated crease area prior to game play.
  • A goal cannot be scored by kicking the ball or throwing the ball into the net.
  • Players must give the opposing teams player five feet of space if they are chasing the ball into the wall or in a corner.
  • At no time shall an offensive player or their stick enter the goalie crease.  The only exception is when the ball is in the crease.
  • No slap shots.
Penalties
  • If an infraction occurs and the player or other members of the team make the call, the player who made the infraction must sit out for 2 minutes. The team will not be short handed. If the team or player does not make the call and the coordinator does, that player will have to sit out and the team will be shorthanded.
  • Any intentional penalties (i.e. tripping, slashing, roughing, etc.) will result in the player being asked to sit out the rest of the game. If a player is asked to sit out twice in a season they are done for the year.
  • If a player takes more than 3 penalties in a game they will be out for the rest of the night.
  • High sticking – Players are not permitted to lift their sticks above their waist. You must keep your stick below your waist at all times.
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Slashing, hooking, and tripping.
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Goalies are not permitted to leave the crease.
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Reaching around a player when chasing them or hooking the stick.
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Reckless play
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Aggressive play
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Body contact
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Too many players on the floor
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Offensive player in the crease
    • This will result in a 2-minute penalty.
  • Any threatening or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
    • Game ejection with further action to follow from The League.
  • Slap shots will result in being ejected from The League.
It is the League Coordinators discretion as to whether a player’s conduct is appropriate. At any time, the League Coordinator may eject a player from the game depending on the severity of the penalty.
If a team is given a penalty the opposing team will go onto a 4 on 3 power play. If the penalized team takes another penalty the opposing team will go on a 4 on 2 power play. If the penalized team takes another penalty the opposing team will remain on the 4 on 2 power play but the third penalty will not start until the end of the first penalty.

Playoffs
  • All teams will get two playoff games regardless of where they finish in the standings or the score of their first playoff game
  • Playoff games that end in a tie will then have a 5-minute sudden death over time. If games are still tied the game will be decided by a sudden death shootout
  • Shootout – First team to miss loses.
    • Example: If team A shoots first and scores then team B must score, or they lose. If team A misses and team B scores, team B wins.
Alcohol Consumption
  • The League and the facilities do not allow open alcohol at any public venue.
  • Any player or team found to be under the influence of alcohol, or other controlled substance, will be automatically ejected from The League without refund.
  • All fines will be the responsibility of the teams. Teams will lose every scheduled game and will not be scheduled any other games until all fines are paid.
Rescheduling
  • Gym time is very limited. The League will not reschedule games for any reason.
  • Should you cancel or not show up for your game you will lose by default.
Sportsmanship

This is a rec league and we expect all players and teams to have a fun first attitude. To help enforce this style of play we ask all teams to report the sportsmanship rating of the opposing team after every game.

2 – Good, fun spirited team, respected their opposition and made the game enjoyable.
1 – Was not unsportsmanlike, but didn’t go out of their way to make the game enjoyable.
0 – Was not a fun team to play. They made the game less enjoyable and did not respect the opposition.

If a team gets two 0 ratings in one season The League will decide whether the team is fit for this league and may remove them from the schedule.
Any complaints about the opposing team should brought to the attention of the League Coordinator and be done in a respectful and polite way at the end of the game.
Any issues throughout the game should be brought to the attention of your captain and The League Coordinator. The League Coordinator will then bring both captains together to discuss a solution. No one other then the captain should discuss these issues with the opposition.

Scores
  • Captains are responsible for reporting scores and sportsmanship rating to the League Coordinator following games.
  • Teams should confirm scores after each point.
  • Scores can be emailed to scores@saskatoonrecleague.com
